Urban Water Pollution Threatens Calgary's Ecosystem, Demands Urgent Action
Urban water quality in Calgary, Canada is affected by both point and non-point source pollution. The study analyzed pollutant levels in stormwater runoff, snowmelt, and baseflow from different land use areas. Results showed that pollutant concentrations varied between land use types, with lower levels in snowmelt and baseflow compared to stormwater runoff. The study also found that particulate matter wash-off primarily affects water quality in different land use areas. These findings emphasize the importance of understanding and managing pollutant loading from various land uses to protect riverine water quality.
