Wild Mustard Competition Reduces Wheat Yield, Nitrogen Fertilizer Impact Significant
The researchers studied how wild mustard and nitrogen fertilizer affect wheat yield in Iran. They tested different nitrogen levels and weed densities in a field experiment. Results showed that nitrogen levels influenced wheat traits like tiller number and seed yield. Weed density also had a significant impact on most traits measured. Higher nitrogen increased wheat yield, but also led to more weed loss in the field. It was found that wild mustard densities should be considered when deciding how much nitrogen to use, with 150 kgN.ha-1 being recommended.
