New Carbon Fiber Hinge Design Boosts Structure Stiffness and Resilience
Researchers designed a shape memory composite hinge and analyzed its bending behavior using simulations. They found that the hinge can withstand bending better than individual layers, with the back-to-back structure increasing stiffness and resilience. The bending process showed increasing stress in different parts of the hinge as it bends, with the tested moment matching the simulation results.
