New Asian Principles of Law to Harmonize International Legal Systems
The Asian Principles of Private International Law (APPIL) were created by scholars from 10 Asian countries to make the region's private international law rules more consistent. These principles cover topics like choosing which laws apply, deciding where legal cases should be heard, recognizing foreign court decisions, and supporting international commercial arbitration. The APPIL can be used as a guide for Asian countries to create or improve their own private international law rules. While not legally binding, they can be used by courts and arbitrators as a helpful tool. The APPIL is the first effort in Asia to harmonize private international law, and it may influence future laws in the region.
