Biofuel revolution: Bagasse hemicellulose extraction boosted by enzyme pretreatment and microwaves.
In this research, scientists aimed to better extract hemicellulose from bagasse, a plant waste, to make useful biofuels and chemicals. They used a new method combining enzyme treatment and microwave assistance. By adding a specific amount of enzymes and using microwave heat for a set time, they got 86% of the hemicellulose out of bagasse. The enzyme and microwaves made the plant material easier to work with, increasing the hemicellulose yield. This method could help in producing more eco-friendly fuels and chemicals from plant leftovers.
