Increased budget transparency leads to better governance and citizen satisfaction.
Transparency in local government budgets is important for accountability and citizen participation. This study looked at budget transparency in Macedonian municipalities from 2014-2017. The researchers found that higher budget transparency leads to better public discussion, consensus on government priorities, and reduces corruption. It also helps citizens understand how their money is being spent and increases their willingness to pay for public services. The study suggests that involving the public in decision-making processes and making budget documents more accessible can improve local government transparency and accountability.
