Urban Green Spaces Boost City Life, Outweigh Maintenance Costs Near Centers
Urban green spaces in cities provide cultural and regulating ecosystem services. A new method was developed to assess these services based on green space and land rent. Green spaces near the city center offer higher cultural services compared to those near the urban edge. Regulating services contribute 5% to 40% of total ecosystem services from the center to the edge. There is a threshold beyond which the ecosystem services provided by green spaces are lower than the cost of maintaining them.
