Grassland changes drive soil erosion on China's Loess Plateau.
Land use changes on the Loess Plateau in China from the late 1980s to 2010 were studied to see how they affected soil erosion. Grassland changes had the biggest impact on soil erosion, followed by farmland and unused land changes. Soil erosion got worse from the late 1980s to 2000 but improved from 2000 to 2010 because of the Chinese Grain to Green Project. Soil erosion increased in all regions before 2000 but decreased after, except in the desert and agricultural areas.
