Urban Planning Policies Could Intensify or Alleviate Scorching City Heat Waves
The study looked at how different urban planning policies in Brisbane affect the urban heat island effect, where cities are hotter than rural areas. They considered scenarios like business as usual, transit-oriented development, infill development, motorway-oriented development, and sprawl development. The results showed that infill development can help reduce the urban heat island effect, but may create hot spots. On the other hand, sprawl development can spread out the heat island effect more evenly throughout the city.
