Extreme waves causing erosion threaten Yarada beach in India
Coastal erosion at Yarada beach near Visakhapatnam, India was studied using a computer model called Xbeach. The model accurately predicted erosion at the northern part of the beach and some changes at the southern part. Sediment movement was mainly towards the south, causing erosion in the north and accretion in the south. Erosion was more severe during high wave conditions. This study shows that modeling can help understand how beaches respond to different conditions and identify areas at risk of erosion, helping to prevent land loss.
