Massive Clutha River Catchment Faces Environmental Crisis Due to Grazing
The Clutha River drains a large area with lakes and mountainous regions. Streams like Matukituki and Dart Rivers flow through these valleys, mostly used for grazing. The catchment above Lakes Wanaka, Wakatipu, and Hawea is 2,500 square miles, while below the lakes is 5,600 square miles.
