Chicken sperm freezing breakthrough could revolutionize poultry farming worldwide.
The researchers studied different ways to freeze and thaw chicken sperm to improve its quality. They tested four types of cryoprotectants and two thawing temperatures. They found that using ethylene glycol (EG) and thawing at 5°C resulted in the best sperm motility after thawing. Adding ficoll to the freezing solution with EG also improved sperm movement and reduced cell death. More research is needed to optimize the cryoprotectant concentrations and test the fertility of the frozen sperm on different types of chickens.
