Climate change intensifies extreme rainfalls in Mediterranean, study finds.
Extreme rainfall events are becoming more frequent and intense due to climate change. This study looked at different statistical methods to analyze extreme rainfalls in the Mediterranean region. They found that the Generalized Pareto Distribution with Bayesian estimator is the most accurate for predicting extreme precipitation levels. For return periods of 50, 150, and 300 years, the Generalized Extreme Value Distribution with Bayesian estimator showed the highest return levels in western stations, while the Generalized Pareto Distribution with Bayesian estimator showed the highest levels in eastern Mediterranean stations.
