China's Grain for Green Program to Offset Global Carbon Emissions
The Grain for Green Program in China helps absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by planting trees and restoring ecosystems. By 2050, this program could store over 4 trillion grams of carbon, offsetting a small percentage of China's and the world's carbon emissions. Afforestation from this program accounted for a quarter of global carbon storage from 2000 to 2010. This shows that large-scale tree planting and ecosystem restoration can play a significant role in reducing carbon in the atmosphere.
