Boosting essential oil production in plants with innovative bio-fertilizer technique
Researchers conducted a field experiment to study how Moldavian balm plants respond to different levels of phosphate fertilizers. They found that using biological fertilizers increased plant height and branches, especially when combined with low chemical fertilizer levels. The plants had the most leaf and flower weight with the lowest chemical fertilizer. The plants showed a strong response to biological fertilizers, leading to an increase in essential oil production. Overall, using biological fertilizers at the seed stage resulted in more plant biomass and essential oil content, especially with high chemical fertilizer levels.
