Cheaper, Greener Iron Production Unlocked by Innovative Coal Reduction Technique
Iron ore fines from mining sites can be reduced by coal and coal dust. The type of coal used doesn't affect the reduction degree. The activation energy is higher when using only coal compared to coal + coal dust. The fastest reaction rate occurs at 1000°C. Swelling happens at 850 and 900°C, while shrinkage occurs at 950 and 1000°C.
