The World Trade Organisation was created in 1995 after trade negotiations during the Uruguay Round of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade. The purpose was to reduce tariffs and trade barriers. The Doha Round, which started in 2001, is the current round of negotiations under the WTO, but it is still ongoing and unresolved.
