External insulation systems can help save energy by storing heat, with materials like water being more effective than concrete. A study compared internal and external insulation systems using EnergyPlus simulations. The results showed that external insulation systems have lower heating and cooling loads, with a more consistent heat transfer rate compared to internal systems. Using external insulation can reduce heating and cooling energy demand by about 13.6% compared to internal insulation systems.
