Employees in the public sector in Serbia earn higher wages than those in the private sector, even when factors like education and job type are taken into account. A study using data from 2013 found that public sector workers in Serbia earned 33.4% more per hour on average than private sector workers. This wage difference, known as the public sector wage premium, was estimated to be 17.2%. This means that in Serbia, public sector employees are paid significantly more than their private sector counterparts for the same job.
