Recession in Childhood Leads to Lower Income and Education in Adulthood
The 1980-1982 recession had long-lasting negative effects on education and income. Children born in areas hit hard by the recession were less likely to get a college degree and earned less money as adults. This was especially true for those aged 0-13 in 1979. The recession led to a decline in childhood skills and resources for college. Government aid did not lessen these effects. The recession still affects the economy today.
