Different land uses in Nigeria affecting soil properties, impacting agriculture and environment.
Soil properties were studied in different land uses in the Guinea Savannah of Nigeria. The researchers collected soil samples from forests, cultivated areas, and grazing lands, and analyzed them. They found that soil properties like bulk density, sand content, organic matter, pH, total nitrogen, and more varied between land uses. For example, bulk density was lower in forests, sand content was lower in cultivated areas, and pH ranged from 5.33 to 6.96. The study concluded that different land uses affect soil differently, and recommended practices like conservation tillage and afforestation to improve soil health.
