Developing urban areas experiencing longer heat island effect due to urbanization.
The study looked at how urbanization affects urban heat islands in Hong Kong. Highly developed areas have stronger UHI intensity, but both highly developed and developing areas have similar UHI duration. Over the past 25 years, UHI duration has increased in developing areas, with UHIs starting earlier and ending later. This change is linked to population growth and increased night light in developing areas. Understanding UHI duration changes is important for planning in big cities like Hong Kong.
