Ancient Delta Sandbodies Unveil New Reservoir Targets for Future Exploration
The researchers studied sandbodies in a shallow-water delta in NE China. They analyzed different types of sandbodies in the delta plain and front, and found that distributary channels and mouth bars were key features. The delta evolved over time, with distributary channels decreasing in size and mouth bars becoming more prominent. The best reservoir targets for future exploration are point bar and active channel sandbodies in the main distributary channels.
