Maize yield gaps in Ghana could be reduced with irrigation and fertilizers
Maize yield variability and gaps in northern Ghana were studied using a crop simulation model. The researchers looked at different factors affecting maize yield, like water and nitrogen levels, and compared potential yields with actual farmer yields. They found that there is a significant gap between what maize could potentially yield and what farmers are actually getting. By using better fertiliser and irrigation practices, this yield gap could be reduced, leading to higher maize production in the region.
