New study reveals how Fe-chelates and pH impact nutrient availability for cucumbers in hydroponics.
Fe-chelates used in hydroponic systems for growing cucumbers can affect the availability of iron (Fe) and other nutrients like zinc (Zn). Different Fe-chelates and pH levels were tested to see how they impacted Fe and Zn uptake by cucumber plants. Results showed that the type of Fe-chelate and pH level influenced Zn uptake, with EDDHA leading to higher Zn uptake compared to DTPA and HEEDTA at high pH. The Fe uptake was not significantly affected by the treatments. Overall, the study highlights the importance of choosing the right Fe-chelate and pH levels to optimize the availability of essential nutrients for plant growth in hydroponic systems.
