Access to land is crucial for food security in rural Kenya. Increasing the size of land operated by farmers leads to higher cereal consumption. Poor farmers mainly rely on renting land to expand cultivation, but rented plots have lower productivity and investment compared to owned plots. This limits farmers' ability to reach their optimal land size and hinders national food security and poverty reduction efforts.
