Global primary energy use is mostly from fossil fuels, but they have environmental challenges. Carbon sequestration and geoengineering are not viable solutions. Nuclear energy has a small role and is not expected to grow much. Renewable energy, like wind and solar, faces challenges due to intermittency and storage costs. Removing subsidies for fossil fuels could greatly reduce energy demand to a level that renewable energy could meet.
