Seasonal grazing key to maintaining plant diversity in alpine grasslands
Grazing intensity and regime affect plant communities in alpine grasslands. A study in Qinghai province found that different grazing levels and regimes impact plant biomass and composition. Seasonal grazing in the growing season maintained more desirable plant species compared to continuous grazing. This suggests that periodic resting of grasslands can help keep palatable species and reduce undesirable ones, especially in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau.
