Organic grass-fed beef production in Japan reduces environmental impact significantly
Beef production in Japan has big environmental impacts, especially when using imported feed. Yakumo Farm in northern Japan produces grass-fed beef with farm-grown feed. They switched to organic management, which reduced environmental impacts. Organic and non-organic systems had less impact on acidification, eutrophication, and energy use compared to conventional systems. Organic management at Yakumo Farm helped lessen environmental impacts, showing potential for reducing impacts in beef production worldwide.
