Climate models show progress but still struggle with East Asia weather.
Climate models used in the CMIP5 project have been analyzed to see how well they simulate climate patterns over East Asia and the western North Pacific. The models have improved in simulating past climate changes and mean states, but some biases still exist, like rainfall patterns and El NiƱo impacts on monsoons. Coupled models perform better than standalone ones. Future climate projections show uncertainties, but most models predict increased precipitation. Using regional ocean-atmosphere models is recommended for more accurate climate change predictions in this region.
