Optimized Double Skin Facades Boost Daylight in Office Buildings
Scientists studied how to make office buildings with double skin façades (DSF) use daylight better. They used computer simulations to test different window sizes, depths, and glass types. The goal was to find the best setup for offices when the sky has medium brightness (20-40 klux). They found that for the outside windows using bronze coating, the best inside window types were gray, clear reflective, brown, and plain glass. These combos provided the most daylight for DSF offices with different depths and window sizes. Blue glass inside, however, didn't work well in any setup. The study shows which combinations work best to bring in natural light for people working in DSF offices under certain sky conditions.
