Soil erosion threatens Middle Atlas Mountain watershed in Morocco.
The study focused on soil erosion in the Ikkour watershed in Morocco's Middle Atlas Mountain. Researchers used a model called USLE along with remote sensing and GIS to assess soil erosion susceptibility. They found that steep slopes and poor vegetation cover contribute to high soil loss, with an estimated annual potential loss of 70.66 tons per hectare. Spectral indices also showed varying degrees of soil degradation in the area. The results suggest that soil erosion is worsened by rugged terrain and increased agricultural activities, highlighting the need for conservation programs to reduce erosion.
