Asexual seeds in plants revolutionize crop breeding and seed production!
Flowering plants usually reproduce through seeds made from both male and female parts. But some plants can make seeds without this process, called apomixis. There are two types: sporophytic, where extra embryos form, and gametophytic, where eggs turn into embryos without fertilization. Gametophytic apomixis is linked to having extra sets of chromosomes and is controlled by special genes. This type of reproduction could be useful for breeding new plant varieties and making seeds without pollination.
