Iron deficiency anemia rises in children with zinc deficiency, study finds.
Iron deficiency and anemia are more common in children with low zinc levels. A study looked at 560 kids aged 6 months to 16 years. They measured zinc levels in hair and checked blood for iron levels. Kids with low zinc had higher rates of iron deficiency (60.1%) and anemia (20.2%) compared to those with normal zinc levels. Low zinc was also linked to certain blood cell changes. So, having low zinc can lead to more iron problems in children.
