The Three Gorges Dam helps reduce flooding in the Yangtze River Basin, but Dongting Lake still faces flood risks. A study used a model to see how the dam affects floods in the lake. Results show the dam can lower flood levels caused by the Yangtze River, but not those from other rivers. To manage floods in Dongting Lake, a mix of warning systems, coordinated dam operations, and traditional flood control methods are needed. Also, natural flood management and lake restoration can help lower flood risks.
