Cleaner Air for Millions: New Coal Combustion Model Slashes Harmful Emissions
The researchers improved a model for predicting NOx emissions from burning coal by adjusting the rate at which a certain chemical is oxidized. By making this change, they were able to better match their simulations with actual measurements of NOx levels in a test furnace. They also found that the amount of surface area on the coal particles played a key role in the accuracy of their predictions.
