Nutrient application boosts bamboo resilience to drought stress, improving growth and survival.
Nutrient application can help Moso bamboo withstand drought better. The researchers studied how adding nitrogen and phosphorus affected young bamboo plants in dry conditions. They found that drought stress reduced plant growth and photosynthesis, but adding N and P improved leaf nutrient levels, photosynthesis, and water use efficiency. The plants treated with high N and P had less decrease in growth and photosynthesis under drought compared to those with low N and P. This shows that providing the right nutrients can help bamboo cope with water stress by boosting photosynthesis and water efficiency.
