A study on Reliance Fresh shows that farmers supplying to supermarkets benefit from higher yields and prices, leading to increased income. These farmers are also more efficient in vegetable production compared to those selling in traditional markets. The findings suggest that supermarkets can help farmers diversify into high-value crops and address agricultural crises in Punjab. To be effective, supermarkets should use mechanisms like contract farming and provide technical support and credit to farmers.
