Soybean Lecithin Preserves Black Bengal Buck Semen, Offering Affordable Cryopreservation for Livestock Farmers
The researchers wanted to see if they could use soybean lecithin instead of egg yolk to preserve Black Bengal buck semen. They collected semen from bucks, mixed it with different levels of soybean lecithin, and froze it. They found that using 1% soybean lecithin in the mixture kept the sperm quality similar to using egg yolk. But when they used higher levels of soybean lecithin, the sperm quality decreased. So, they concluded that a mixture with 1% soybean lecithin and 5% glycerol can replace egg yolk for preserving Black Bengal buck semen.
