New Model Reduces Agricultural Pollution, Protecting Watersheds and Ecosystems
Non-point source pollution from agriculture is a big problem in watersheds. Scientists used a model called SWAT to study how to reduce this pollution in China. They looked at things like nutrients, sediments, and how land is used. The model showed that with buffer zones, the amount of nitrogen and phosphorus in the water can be reduced. This means that by changing how land is used near rivers and reservoirs, we can help keep the water cleaner.
