Higher unemployment benefits lead to longer jobless periods, especially for women.
The study looked at how increasing unemployment benefits affected how long people stayed unemployed, whether they found a job, and how much they earned. They focused on a change in Swiss unemployment benefits in 2003. People who got higher benefits stayed unemployed about one week longer. Women were more affected than men. However, the higher benefits didn't change the chances of finding a job or how much money people made after they found a job.
