Beach nourishment project negatively impacts surfing quality in New Jersey.
The study looked at how adding sand to a beach in Surf City, New Jersey affected surfing. They used a computer model to see how the waves changed before and after the beach was widened. The results showed that the surf quality got worse after the project, with more waves closing out and breaking in a different way. It took about 21-22 months for the surf conditions to go back to normal. The researchers suggest that beach projects need to be redesigned to avoid harming surfing spots in the future.
