Carpathian Mountains Reveal Surprisingly Low Methane and Carbon Dioxide Emissions
The study measured methane and carbon dioxide emissions in the Western Carpathians using a static chamber method at 10 stations. Gas samples were analyzed, showing low methane emissions from the soil (-0.451 mg * m -2* d -1) and through drilled holes (-0.361 mg * m -2* d -1). However, carbon dioxide emissions were higher, averaging 1829.3 mg * m -2* d -1. Overall, the study found low emissions of methane and carbon dioxide in the area, contradicting previous findings of elevated levels of light hydrocarbons in the soil gas samples.
