Optimizing crop patterns to save water and increase agricultural profits.
The study aimed to optimize crop patterns in areas with limited water by considering uncertain water availability and potential water savings. They developed a model to maximize profits per unit of irrigation water, using different scenarios of water availability and increased water-saving rates. Applying the model to a specific region in China, they found that increasing water-saving rates could lead to significant water savings. Optimizing crop patterns showed that allocating more water and land to maize could be more beneficial. The study highlights the importance of efficient water use in agriculture to maximize benefits in water-scarce regions.
