New Study Reveals Potential for Increased Groundwater Supply in Nigeria
Pumping tests were conducted on twelve boreholes in Boki, Nigeria to determine aquifer properties. The Cooper Jacob’s Straight-line Equation was used to analyze drawdown data. Results showed transmissivity ranging from 6.67 x 10-4m2/day to 2.50m2/day, hydraulic conductivity from 5.13 x 10-5m/day to 1.67 x10-1m/day, and borehole yield from 1.30 l/s to 1.97 l/s. Boreholes with higher yield had shallow water levels and were in highly weathered areas. Recommendations include installing boreholes at least 3m above drilled depth and using motorized pumps for higher yield.
