Regional airports in Italy face economic challenges due to low traffic and small catchment areas. A study analyzed 34 airports from 2006 to 2016 using Data Envelopment Analysis. The size of the airport, presence of low-cost carriers, and cargo traffic impact efficiency. Privatization and deregulation can improve regional airport sustainability by increasing efficiency.
