Wastewater treatment breakthrough slashes pollution, improves health in Pakistan
In this study, two different systems of constructed wetlands were compared to treat household wastewater in Pakistan. They found that both systems effectively removed pollutants like chemicals and solids from the water, showing reductions ranging from 63% to 89%. The systems also greatly decreased harmful bacteria and other germs by over 94%. The researchers calculated how fast these pollutants were removed and found that the treatment process followed a predictable pattern. They discovered that the water's temperature influenced how well the systems worked. This research shows that these types of constructed wetlands are useful for cleaning wastewater in a sustainable way.
