New sewage treatment process removes emerging contaminants with high efficiency.
The researchers studied how ozonation and an ozone/hydrogen peroxide process can remove organic compounds and emerging contaminants from sewage. They found that the ozone/hydrogen peroxide process removed organic compounds effectively, with low ozone consumption. Both processes were effective in removing emerging contaminants. They also discovered new reaction phenomena, like the temporary increase and decrease of dissolved ozone and the accumulation of hydrogen peroxide during oxidation.
