Organic amendments boost rice yield and soil health in low-productivity areas.
In a 4-year study on low-productivity paddy soil, combining inorganic fertilizers with organic materials like cattle manure or rice straw increased rice yields by 9-11% compared to using only inorganic fertilizers. Cattle manure application also improved soil pH and nutrient availability, especially phosphorus, at a depth of 0-10 cm. Green manure and spent mushroom compost did not significantly impact rice yields. This research shows that integrating organic amendments with inorganic fertilizers can enhance crop productivity and soil health in low-productivity paddy fields.
