The researchers tested the fatigue life of 3D-printed titanium scaffolds under different types of stress. They found that the scaffolds lasted longer under compression-compression stress compared to tension-tension stress. By looking at the stress in the struts, they could predict how long the scaffolds would last. The scaffolds broke near the nodes where the stress was highest.
